Cherry Chipotle BBQ Sauce
Share
Sweet. Smoky. Spicy. And ready to get all up in your grill.
This Cherry Chipotle BBQ Sauce isn’t some store-bought, one-note nonsense. It’s a homemade flavor bomb that hits with tart cherries, smoky chipotle, and just enough tang to make your meat melt. Whether you’re brushing it on ribs, dunking wings, or drizzling it over a pulled pork sandwich, this stuff delivers backyard BBQ greatness with every drop.
And the best part? It’s stupid easy to make.
Ingredients
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 cup sweet cherries (fresh or frozen, pits removed)
- 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
- 1 tablespoon adobo sauce (from the chipotle can)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 lime (zest and juice)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Rub Yer Meat BBQ Rub, to taste (added after blending)
Instructions
1. Combine the Good Stuff
In a medium saucepan, toss in everything but the Rub Yer Meat, salt, and pepper. Yep—cherries, ketchup, chipotle, molasses, lime zest and juice… the whole gang.
2. Simmer and Stir
Bring it to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer. Let it bubble gently for about 20 minutes, stirring regularly. This is where the flavors get freaky and fall in love.
3. Blend It Smooth
Turn off the heat and let it cool just enough so you’re not pressure-washing your ceiling. Then blend it until smooth. Silky. Velvety. Sauce goals.
4. Season Like a Pit Boss
Now hit it with salt, pepper, and Rub Yer Meat BBQ Rub to taste. That smoky, sweet, spicy combo just got kicked up to championship level.
5. Slather & Serve
Brush it on ribs, wings, brisket, pulled pork, chicken thighs, or straight onto a sandwich. Heck, we won’t judge if you dip fries in it. Just get it on something hot and meaty.
Pro Tips
- Want it spicier? Add another chipotle pepper or more adobo sauce.
- No blender? Use an immersion blender or mash the cherries as it simmers.
- Store leftovers in a sealed jar in the fridge—good for up to a week (if it lasts that long).
Bonus Points
Pair this sauce with a heavy shake of Rub Yer Meat BBQ Rub on your protein of choice. It's the combo your meat dreams about.
